Basic Coffee Education @ KaffeCaffe

Basic Coffee & Espresso Education

HappyTummyKitty experienced and explored the coffee's culinary side
by attending KaffeCaffe's coffee course.

Ms. Anj Ferreria, the owner and espresso chef of  KaffeCaffe
taught us the science of coffee and espresso

First, It all started with the dancing goats,
Kaldi the Ethiopian goatherder noticed that his goats acting strange and full energy after eating berries, so Kaldi couldn't resist trying it for himself and it gave him the same effect.
From then, Kaldi was the one who discovered the coffee plant and the evolution of cofee begun.

THE SPECIES OF COFFEE
The two most common types of beans are the

Arabica is came from Arabia , its bigger and oblong than Robusta.
Arabica is more aromatic and have great flavor that has less or low caffeine content than any other coffee species.
while the Robusta is smaller bean, but more robust with higher caffeine content.

BREWING THE PERFECT CUP OF COFFEE
Picture above is the Drip and French Press coffee maker.
For coarse coffee ground, it is best to use a French Press and it extracts a very bold tasting coffee.

Vacuum pot or Syphon Brewer
using two chambers where vapor pressure and vacuum produce coffee

The Ibrik or the Turkish coffee maker
is used best in  pulverized coffee grounds.
It consist of water, ground coffee, sugar if you want sweetened coffee and cinnamon for flavor.

How to brew with an ibrik?
Add the water, sugar, coffee, cinnamon.
Heat until the water boils.
Wait for the water to foams up until it has foamed up 3 times.
Remove the heat/fire
Stir and serve.

 BREWED COFFEE COCKTAIL
 Irish coffee
a coffee combined with whiskey and cream, often further sweetened with sugar.

 THE ESPRESSO MACHINE
Ms. Anj bought this second hand machine for Php600,000.00, yes a coffee machine is expensive
but it is all worth it for working in about 12 years.
According to her, for you to own a coffee shop business, you have to invest around 2.6M.

This coffee tamper must hold like a flashlight, for perfect pressing

 CAFFE LATTE ART
consists of the pouring of steamed milk into a shot of espresso
generating a pattern or design on the surface.
this is ain't that easy! Caffe Latte Art is a talent! :)

Ms. Anj and the other interns shows us their beautiful and common latte art like
Rosetta, Heart, Fern, Tulip

Remember, its difficult to create a good Latte Art without a good crema,
thus, it require to have a good foam and good milk texture.

ofcourse, I got the chance to try and taste all their coffee and I found out KaffeCaffe has
better taste coffee than other commercialized coffee shop,TRY IT!!!
This KaffeCaffe coffee class was definitely not a waste of time for me,
I found the whole day very productive and enjoyable experience.
